Carrots are terrific, but they don’t actually give you the power to see in the dark.

This idea was probably aided, if not created, by pervasive carrot promotion tactics during the World War II, a mix of disinformation for the Germans and an effort to promote cheap, plentiful foods like vegetables in a time of rationing of sugar, butter, and bacon.

Carrots are still a delicious, healthful vegetable, as well as the subject of an extensive online exhibit: the World Carrot Museum.
