The snatch is a challenging lift, one of the lifts in Olympic competition. Olympic lifting is fast and athletic, and requires excellent balance, coordination, and mastery of technique. (It also helps to wear shoes with a stiffer, less cushy sole than running shoes!)

But you don’t have to master the snatch (and potentially go down the road of thousands of middle-school jokes) to get the strength and bone-density benefits of resistance exercise – benefits that only increase in value as we age. Whether you prefer running, bikes, yoga, or any of dozens of other activities, including some full-body strength training will improve your performance and endurance, and will help stave off injury.

The CDC recommends 2 strength training sessions per week. More at Adding Physical Activity to Your Life.
